Sabrina

Sabrina kept getting information in the mail from the Boston Housing Authority about the FSS program. After the third time, she finally decided to look into it and see what they had to offer. She had dreams of being a homeowner but as a single mother it was difficult to pay down debt and save money. The FSS program with the built-in savings structure was a lifeline to do this.

To Sabrina, being a homeowner means more than just stability for herself and her children, but the ability to leave something for her children when she’s gone, and to show them how she accomplished this goal on her own.

Before she could purchase a home, Sabrina needed to improve her credit, and this was her first priority. Her coach, Lashaunnda, has been instrumental in her progress. Sabrina says, “She’s the most amazing person I’ve ever worked with. She encourages me, takes her time, and goes out of her way to find an answer if she doesn’t know. She goes above and beyond with anything I ever ask for.”

Learning the different techniques to improve her credit score has been really helpful. So has watching the balance steadily increase in her FSS savings account, which motivates her to keep striving towards her goal. This incremental progress has proven to be a major confidence boost as well.

“I’m extremely proud of myself for stepping outside of my comfort zone and inquiring about the FSS program. I’ve seen a major increase in my credit score – I have outstanding credit now! And the difference in my rent is going into savings and because I can see it, I have the discipline to keep going. This makes me feel closer to my goal.”

Sabrina continues to work towards her goal of owning a home and is confident she will achieve this. Her motto is: “It should, it can, and it will be done. Just set your mind to it and keep your eye on the prize.”
